Valentine’s Day in NYC: where to eat

À bout de souffle, Jean-Luc Godard

You really shat the bed on this one. It’s almost ❤ Valentine’s Day and you have no plans for your bae…

You can try the old “let’s stay in bed and cuddle all day” route …

But your boo might be a little less than thrilled at your complete lack of forethought…

Personally, I dig the Bon Appetit approach of getting a swanky cocktail and cooking at home…

But your bae might want just a touch more adventure than that…

Guys, I GOT you. You can still make Valentine’s Day memorable without having to scrounge through the scraps of Opentable. Here’s a list of things that I would want to do. Some of them involve traveling to outer boroughs – if you already inhabit one of these barrios, lucky you, but if you don’t, let your journey be part of the quality time and adventure. Be creative. Your bae will be most delighted with your originality and romantic sentiment.

1. Fill your Starbucks cups with Chianti and head to Difara Pizza… rumored to be THEE best slices in NYC.
* EXPERT tip: order the regular AND the square slice.

2. Swap that Chianti for a tequila lime spritzer and check out Tacos El Bronco. Try a tongue taco. Live a little.

3. Explore the Kimchi Belt in Queens… Pete Wells has already mapped out the good spots for us. Thank you, Pete.

4. Pop a bottle of Prosecco at home and then go to IHOP. IT’S OPEN 24 HOURS! So be a gangster and go at like 11:00 pm.

5. Go to Chinatown. Skip the lines at Nom Wah Tea Parlor and head to Shanghai Asian Manor. Two words: soup dumplings. Careful with the squirts.

6. Do it diner style. Cozy up in a booth at Odessa Cafe & Bar and feast on Ukranian and American comfort foods.

7. If you insist on going big, go to the most old school Frenchie place in town, La Grenouille. You’re way late for dins, but they still have available lunch reservations. Get on it.

It’s gonna be okay. Happy Vday to you and your boo.
